EXPERIENCE

MICROSOFT

(12th December 2005 – Present)

Designation: Program Manager

Program Manager is a unique role to Microsoft and I think it is fair to write a small brief on my job as a PM.

As a PM in Microsoft, my explicit goal is to partner with development team and work through the entire product cycle as the advocate for end-users and customers.

My mandate differs, based on product cycle and generally involves four phases, learn, convince, spec and refine.

Understanding customer’s problems and needs, starts the “learn” phase, it requires market research, following trends and understating customers’ current and future desires and problems. A typical output of this is a prototype leading to “convince” phase. I then work with the development team, my manager and other stake holders to convince that the problem is genuine and worthwhile to solve. Plans and goals are the results of “convince” phase. Once the team is convinced the specification phase starts, where the product is broken down into features and experiences, once defined and locked I switch gears to project management – constantly refine, prioritize and make sure the product is built and delivered on schedule and as per required quality.

·       I currently work as a PM in an Incubation and Strategic Prototyping team in the games group.

·       Before joining this team I did the following:

o   Platform and Services: Multiple releases for Games for Windows LIVE

o   Platform and Services: One full release cycle for MSN Games

o   Game Production:

§  Uno Rush (Xbox 360 Arcade)

§  Uno (LIVE Messenger and MSN Games)

§  Chess (MSN Games)

§  Sudoku (MSN Games).

JAMDAT (EA MOBILE)

(5th September 2005 - 2nd December 2005)

Designation: Project Manager - Engineering

I was responsible for developing project plans, setting project priorities and facilitating development interactions within company's global studios. The role demanded large volume of games to move through the process pipe and get ported into dozens of different handsets, each with few commons and some unique specifications.

·       Ported Doom RPG onto T-Mobile's Sidekick (device)

·       Worked on game ports for titles like Tetris, Madden NFL, Lemonade Tycoon, Yahtzee Deluxe

PARADOX STUDIOS (JUMP GAMES)

(2nd April 2001 - 31st August 2005)

Designation: Development Manager (PC Games)

I started working in Paradox Studios as a programmer in early 2001. As a programmer I shipped multiple games (listed below), as the PC games division expanded, I became a lead programmer. The team shipped Battledust: The Championship, a 3d one-on-one fighting game. Although the game lacked innovation in terms of game play and design, It got lot of critical acclaim, and is still considered to be the best* PC Game Developed in India. It was the first time for an Indian game development studio to build and publish a FULL PC Game title. India's veteran Rock band Pentagram did the complete sound track. A full motion video of the game was aired on MTV and Channel V. The game demo won 3rd prize in a German Game Contest in 2003.

I was promoted as the development manager of the PC games group. I was responsible for prototyping and pitching new game ideas and also making sure the existing games in the production pipeline are being executed efficiently. We then shipped Bomberbabe; it clocked over 100,000 downloads, won a special jury award and was also localized for EMEA. After quick succession we shipped Shatranj a 3d animated chess game, set in Indian mythology theme.

Though the company was making significant   gains in credibility and a popular name in local video game industry, the PC group was not making profit.

We had two projects in pipe, a defense simulation project with an Israeli Private Defense Company and a 3rd person adventure game “The Lost Astra” - when I decided to move on.

NETELLENNIUM TECHNOLOGIES

(12th Jan 2000 - 2nd March 2001)

Designation: Programmer (Web)

Straight out of college and looking for a games job, I was hired as web programmer at a start-up. I was responsible for developing an Online Gaming Portal and a Match making software for facilitating online play.
